Window Cleaning - Questions & Answers

Where is your window cleaning service available?

Our window cleaning service is available throughout London and Hertfordshire.

What does it cost to have my windows cleaned?

This is a very common question, yet it's difficult to give a simple answer. Windows come in all different shapes, styles and sizes. Also, access and height are important. Naturally, a standard ground floor window is easier and quicker to access than a skylight window on the roof of a 4 storey building. Therefore, while we can give a rough estimate of cost over the phone based on a general description of the building, an accurate quotation can only be given once we inspect the property in person. We will provide written confirmation by post or email.
Quotations are given free of charge. Naturally, we will only proceed with any work when you are completely satisfied with the quotation.

What type of window cleaning service do you provide?

We use the latest water fed pole technology, also called a Reach & Wash system, to professionally and efficiently clean windows to a very high standard. Naturally, we are also able to use traditional window cleaning methods using applicators and sqeegees, particularly on interior window cleaning. However, the Reach & Wash system offers superior results and excellent access on high or difficult to access windows.

What is a water fed pole?

A water fed pole system uses a van mounted filtration system to purify water. Pure water is very aggressive at attracting dirt. Also, with no impurities, purified water leaves windows completely clean and spot free. As there are no chemicals used, this system is kinder to the environment and it also leaves windows cleaner for longer, as there is not residue left on the window to attract dirt.
The purified water is pumped through long carbon fibre poles and through a brush head which is used to clean the window. Using this system our window cleaners can access windows up to 60 feet high. With various accessories, we can also access windows that are in awkward positions, such as skylights, conservatory roofs, and windows over large extensions.
The window cleaner works from the ground and completely safe at all times. This is particularly important to commercial premises who take Health & Safety seriously.

Why don't you dry the windows?

Using purified water means that the window dries to a completely spot free finish. It is therefore unnecessary to dry the window.

What about frames and ledges?

When we use the pure water fed poles we clean all the window, including frames and ledges.

What if it rains?

Rain water by itself is relatively pure and does not really affect window cleaning work. We would usually still carry out the work as planned.
However, while a light drizzle doesn't affect us or the results, a serious downpour may affect the cleaning results if rainwater drips or splashes onto the window from a dirty surface, such as brickwork or trees. Another consideration is the safety of our crew. For safety reasons we would not normally carry out a job in very heavy rain or strong winds.

How often should I have my windows cleaned?

Most residential customers have their windows cleaned either monthly or every 2 months. Within a month a thin layer of grime will normally build up on the glass and after three months a window would look visibly dirty from the street.
Window cleaning for businesses and commercial buildings are generally done more often. A business with a shop front would generally have their windows cleaned weekly or fortnightly as a minimum in order to look clean and presentable for their customers.
Office blocks, schools and large buildings are generally done every 2 or 3 months.

What is meant by the 'first clean'?

You may sometimes hear window cleaners who use Reach & Wash systems talking about the 'first clean'.
If windows haven't been cleaned for a long time, dirt will generally have built up in the sills and paintwork. When a Reach and Wash system is used the pure water gradually draws dirt out of the rubber sills and paintwork. This may cause a few dirty water streaks to run down the glass after the work has been done.
Generally speaking we will spend longer cleaning and rinsing windows that are having their first clean and this generally means that the dirt trapped in the sills and paintwork will be drawn out and washed away.
Rest assured, however, that even if a small amount of residue remains, it will generally all disappear by the second cleaning visit. Pure water is very aggressive at attracting dirt and it will continue to draw dirt out of frames even after the job has finished. This means that your frames get cleaner as times go by.
Do you comply with the latest health and safety laws?
Health and Safety legislation states that ladders should no longer be used for window cleaning if there is a suitable alternative. Water fed poles are now the preferred method for window cleaning and comply 100% with Health & Safety legislation.
The waterfed pole system eliminates the need for ladders so our window cleaners remain 100% safe working from the ground.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, cheque, and all major credit and debits cards. There is no additional charge made for using a credit card.
How long does it take?

A typical house may take 20-30 minutes while an office block can take an entire day.

What about windows that look foggy?

Foggy windows are usually caused by broken seals which cause condensation in between the panes of double glazed windows. Since the fog lies between the glass panes it cannot be cleaned with a Reach & Wash system (or any other cleaning method). A window fitting company can usually replace the entire window pane for you and this will usually solve the problem.

Can you remove paint and varnish from my windows?

This really depends on the location of the window and accessibility. Pure water would not remove paint (otherwise it would strip the paint from your frames!). However, we can still use traditional methods to remove paint using a scraper. As long as the window is on the ground or first floor, or if we can reach the outside of the window from the inside then we would be able to remove paint.

Is it necessary for me to be at home during the window cleaning?

As long as we have access to the windows to be cleaned then you do not need to be at home during your window cleaning visit.

Front windows are generally accessible to us the vast majority of times. However, if you are having window cleaning done at the back of your property then we would require access either through the side entrance or through the house.
